Lighting Matches with a Bullet?

The recent YouTube sensations at the “Smarter EveryDay” crew are becoming known for proving and disproving theories and putting together some downright awesome experiments.

Their latest test caught our eye. The guys try lighting matches with a single bullet. Check out the video below. It might have taken some determination and tweaking, but these would-be scientists eventually did the job with a single round fired from their Ruger 10-22. As always, we suggest you don’t try this a home.

What do you think of their test?

My brother and I used to light single kitcheon matches with Daisy Red Ryder bb guns back in the early 1950's. We were 11 and 12 years old at the time.

I think it would be good to try a non linear collection of matches then, hmmm?

  • Willman

Try firing a .22 rim-fire along the surface of a railway track – did it dozens of times as a stupid kid. You will get sparks one time in five and each time the absolute neatest sound you have ever heard of a whining bullet dissipating its energy as it follows the track.

It was real easy to light a match using a BB gun or any firearm when we could still get Ohio Blue Tip matches. Those things worked, not like the crap we are stuck with today.
