I’m sure most of our sharp-eyed readers have noticed that Shooting Times has been including ammunition from three new ammomakers in the shooting result charts. The companies are AERIS, GBW, and Moylan, and all three are making their mark in the ammo world. Here’s a brief look at what these three manufacturers offer plus a sample of my shooting results using some of their ammunition.

Aeris Ammunition offers defensive handgun ammunition in .45 ACP (185 grains), .40 S&W (155 grains), 9mm Luger (115 grains), and .380 Auto (80 grains). All loads feature nickel cases and unique all-copper, coated, hollowpoint bullets that are designed to expand yet retain weight. Shooting test bullets into water has shown that the massive hollowpoint really opens up.

GBW Cartridge makes self-defense, target shooting, hunting, cowboy action, and training ammunition. Calibers include .380 Auto, 9mm Luger, .40 S&W, .357 Sig, 10mm Auto, .45 ACP, .45 GAP, .38 Special, .357 Magnum, .41 Magnum, .44 Special, .44 Magnum, .45 Colt, .454 Casull, .460 S&W, .500 S&W, .223 Remington, .300 Blackout, and .308 Winchester. Bullet styles offered include copper hollowpoints, lead-free solids, lead RNFPs, and leadfree frangibles. The company also offers LEGEND double-base smokeless powder for handloaders.

Moylan offers purpose-driven handgun ammo in .38 Special, .45 ACP, and .45 Colt. For example, the .38 Spl. 125-grain TMJ ammunition is specially formulated to produce significantly reduced recoil. The .45 ACP 230-grain TMJ ammunition is formulated for accuracy. And the .45 Colt 250-grain TMJ ammunition is formulated for the Taurus Judge and S&W Governor revolvers to eliminate vaporized lead and reduce barrel fouling.

My experience shooting ammunition from these three companies has been very good. Every round fed, fired, extracted, and ejected perfectly. And in terms of accuracy, they rank close to the top of the heap compared to other brands fired in my specific guns. Most of the time they have been second or third most accurate; however, in some cases they have been the most accurate.

As for velocity consistency, as many of you know, double-digit extreme spreads and standard deviations are quite good, and as you can see from the chart, these specific loads produced good results in my handguns.
