Trijicon RMR

Trijicon RMR

The Trijicon RMR is at home on handguns and tactical rifles and also makes an excellent optic for turkey hunters because of its rugged construction and light weight.

Miniaturized red-dot/reflex sights got their start in the hands of competition pistol shooters who wanted the speed and precision of a red dot, but were tired of mounting big, heavy tubes on their pistols. Tactical operators soon figured out that pairing a miniature reflex optic would allow them to use a long-range gun at short, CQB ranges in a pinch. The only catch was the sights were pretty delicate. But the concept proved so workable that Trijicon developed a ruggedized miniature reflex sight able to withstand the rigors of combat. While the RMR is an obvious choice for a short-barreled carbine, pistol, or sniper rifle, hunters should not overlook its abilities, especially turkey hunters. Chasing longbeards is a passion of mine, and long ago I strapped a red-dot sight on my turkey gun. It provided a more precise aiming point, important for a tight-shooting shotgun, and because red-dot optics are parallax free it eliminated most shooter-induced aiming errors. The shot patterns around that dot no matter where my head happens to be.

The RMR with a 4-MOA aiming dot is perfect. It weighs just 1.2 ounces and has a low profile that keeps your head down on the stock. Two models are available--one uses a battery-powered LED with an integral, self-adjusting rheostat, and the other uses fiber optic and tritium. Since the RMR is made of high-quality forged aluminum, is waterproof, and is mil-spec tough, even the most die-hard turkey hunter is unlikely to break it.
