TriStar has expanded its Viper line of semiautomatic shotguns with the Viper Max, a gas-operated waterfowl gun that takes 3ó-inch 12-gauge shells. The Viper Max comes with two gas pistons — one for heavy loads, the other for lighter ammo — allowing the user to shoot light target loads in his duck gun. Here's a clever twist: The second piston can be stored in the forearm for easy retrieval. The gun comes with four Beretta Optima choke tubes and is available in black or Realtree Max-5 camo. Winchester Super X4
Winchester's new Super X4 semiauto builds on the well-established Super X3 and is said to be lighter, faster cycling, and more ergonomic than previous models. The new gun is subdivided into four variants: the SX4, Waterfowl Hunter, Field, and Field Compact. All are 12 gauge with 3ó-inch or 3-inch chambers, vent ribs, back-bored barrels, self-adjusting Active Valve System actions, and large bolt handles and bolt release buttons. ATI Omni Hybrid
The .410 Bore Omni Hybrid AR-15 shotgun from American Tactical Imports (ATI) runs on a short-stroke, balanced piston gas system. The polymer-reinforced upper is built to regular AR mil-spec, and the barrel is threaded for Remington-style chokes. It's chambered for 2ó-inch shells. The Omni comes with one, five-round polymer magazine, and extra 15-round magazines are also available. The gun has a 13-inch KeyMod handguard and an adjustable Rogers M4 Super-Stoc. Barrett Sovereign Rutherford
Barrett Sovereign, a new brand for Barrett Firearms, long known for its .50 BMG rifles, now has several models of Italian- made side-by-side and over-under shotguns, including the Rutherford. The field-grade over-under Rutherford is offered in 12, 16, 20, and 28 gauges. Chambers are 3 inches except the 16 and 28 gauges, which are 2. inches. The barrels are rated for steel shot and have dainty ventilated ribs. The Turkish walnut stocks are beautifully shaped with Prince of Wales pistol grips and are nicely finished and checkered. Benelli Ethos
As we reported in the April issue, Benelli has the new Super Black Eagle 3 this year. The company also has a new 28-gauge Ethos shotgun. The new Ethos is the first gun to be chambered for Fiocchi's new 3-inch 28-gauge shell, with up to 11„16 ounces of shot. It has AA Grade wood and an engraved nickel-plated receiver. Beretta A300 Outlander Turkey
One of Beretta's new-for-2017 shotguns is the gas-operated A300 Outlander Turkey in Realtree XTRA Green camo. It's chambered for 12-gauge 3-inch shells and has TruGlo fiberoptic sights, a reversible safety, and sling attachments. Browning A5
The big splash at Browning this year is a specialized version of the A5 called the Wicked Wing. It's offered with Mossy Oak Shadow Grass Blades, Realtree Max-5, and Mossy Oak Bottomlands camo finishes and utilizes Browning's short recoil operated Kinematic Drive System action, which harnesses recoil energy and converts it into mechanical motion. With the Model 628 Field Select, CZ-USA has added the 28 gauge to its pump action series.
