Designed for close-range personal-defense scenarios, Federal’s new 12-gauge 2¾-inch Force X2 shotshells are loaded with 1 ounce of copper-plated 00 FX2 buckshot pellets that are specially engineered to split into two pieces upon impact. The nine pellets segment to create up to 18 wound channels, and that improves the transfer of energy from the payload to the target and also minimizes the potential for over-penetration, reducing the risk to bystanders. In addition, Force X2 shotshells are loaded for more manageable recoil, allowing the shooter to stay on target for faster follow-up shots.
The copper-plated FX2 buckshot pellets use a high-antimony lead core, but unlike traditional buckshot, FX2 pellets have a central slit to initiate separation upon impact. The Force X2 shotshells utilize Federal’s Triple Plus wad column (two pieces: W9 post with W6 shot cup), they are roll-crimped, and the payload is buffered. Other features include a brass-plated steel high head, specially formulated propellant, and sealed Federal primers.
Testing conducted by Federal engineers in an Improved Cylinder choke produced patterns of 4.5 inches at seven yards and 14 inches at 20 yards. With a Modified choke, the FX2 produced patterns of 4.25 inches at seven yards and 12 inches at 20 yards. The segmented pellets penetrated from 5.25 inches to 14 inches in 10-percent ballistic gel, with pellets starting to split at a depth of 4.5 inches.
The Force X2 shotshells have a muzzle velocity of 1,245 fps. They come in boxes of 10 rounds.
