Peltor Sport Tactical 500 Hearing Protectors

The new Peltor Sport Tactical 500 muffs are the brand’s premier electronic hearing protectors. Using proprietary 3M Smart Technologies, this high-tech headset stifles the sound of gunfire while amplifying speech. Bluetooth wireless technology allows users to sync the headset to mobile devices, thereby making and receiving phone calls or listening to music.

The feature-laden Peltor Sport Tactical 500 is comfortable thanks to its vented and adjustable headband. The ear cushions are soft and tapered so that they don’t interfere with obtaining a proper cheekweld when shooting a long gun. They also feature rubber bumpers to dampen vibration and enhance purchase should a cup contact the stock.

Power is provided by either two AA batteries or 3M’s lithium-ion Alpha 1100 rechargeable battery, and pressing the power button for three seconds activates/deactivates the unit. Up and down chevrons located on the right cup control volume.

The Bluetooth button is located between the volume controls, and it enables the user to pair the hearing protectors with a smart device, pause and play music, advance to the next track, and go back to a previous track. The Bluetooth button also answers, disconnects, and rejects incoming calls.

The Peltor Sport Tactical 500 hearing protectors utilize Dynamic Suppression Time and Clear Voice Tracking. Dynamic Suppression Time measures a gunshot’s energy and automatically adjusts the time of noise suppression (shorter suppression for smaller calibers, and longer suppression for larger calibers). It also minimizes echo. Clear Voice Tracking reduces background noise to improve speech clarity.

When used as directed, the Peltor Sport Tactical 500 provides a noise-reduction rating (NRR) of 26 decibels.
