Crimson Trace Brushline Pro 3-12X 42mm BDC Rifle Scope: Tested

The new Crimson Trace Brushline Pro 3-12X 42mm scope was tested by our editor with a Howa Model 1500 SUPERLITE rifle and it offered the right amount of magnification to take advantage of the rifle's versatility.

For my gun review of the new Howa Model 1500 SUPERLITE from Legacy Sports beginning on page 40 of this issue, I used a brand-new Crimson Trace Brushline Pro 3-12X 42mm scope, and it performed admirably. With its 1-inch-diameter main tube, 42mm objective lens, 13.1-inch length, and 18.7-ounce weight, it fit the lightweight rifle perfectly and offered just the right amount of magnification to take full advantage of the rifle’s versatility.

The Brushline Pro 3-12X 42mm scope comes with Crimson Trace’s Custom Pro BDC reticle placed in the second focal plane. The reticle has four open diamonds on the vertical crosshair below the horizontal crosshair, and they are calibrated for .308 Winchester ammo loaded with a 150-grain bullet at a muzzle velocity of 2,820 fps, which was quite convenient for me considering the Howa rifle I used was chambered for that cartridge.

The reticle has 75 MOA of elevation adjustment and 75 MOA of windage adjustment. Adjustments are in 0.25-MOA increments. And there is a side parallax adjustment knob.

The Brushline Pro scope goes through a rigorous testing process before it leaves the factory, including being tested for extreme high temperature and extreme low temperature, thermal cycling, and vibration. It is drop-tested and tested for complete immersion in liquid. It is tested for zero retention and high-caliber recoil. And it is covered by a lifetime protection guarantee.

My shooting session with the Brushline Pro scope proved to my satisfaction that the scope performs very well and, considering its low retail price of just $359.99, is a very good bargain.
